IMG-28

In furtherance of its Capacity building mandate, NCA through its Training and Capacity
Building department, in the month of February, conducted 6 trainings under the
Authority’s Continuous Professional Development (CPD) program that saw 418
Contractors and 119 Site Supervisors edified.

Of these, two Regional Contractor CPD seminars targeted contractors from 7 counties
under Central Nyanza & Upper Eastern regions, while 2 high impact seminars
specifically targeted MSME contractors from 5 counties under Kajiado and Western
Regions while a further 2 online webinars covered Electrical and Building Contractors
from across the entire country.

Participants in the programs were coached on wide ranging topics that included, but
weren’t limited to: the Bidding Process in Construction, Project Planning &
Management, Contract Administration, Structural Integrity of Buildings, Demolition
Works, Sustainable Water Management, An Engendered Approach to Occupational
Health and Safety, Entrepreneurship for MSMEs In Construction and Alternative Dispute
Resolution in Construction.

Within the same period, as part of NCA’s Continuous Technical Development (CTD)
program, 1,786 construction workers drawn from 91 construction sites across  11
regions were trained under the Construction Workers Onsite Training program.

The CTD program also saw 928 students undertaking various construction related
courses in 7 Vocational and Technical Colleges as well as Youth Polytechnics in
Central Nyanza and Coast regions taken through the Exit and Mentorship Talks
program.

The Construction Workers Onsite Training program has seen marked improvement on
Safe Site practices particularly in the use of PPEs and Safety Signs. The program also
sensitizes Contractors and Site Supervisors on safety compliance measures and
adoption of continuous trainings through toolbox talks, to ensure consistency in applying
Site Safety best practices.

The next two High Impact one-day Seminars will take place on 8th March 2023 in
Mombasa (MSMEs) and 15th March 2023 in Kisumu (Women, Youth, PWDs
Directors). Registration can be done through https://portal.nca.go.ke:81.https://portal.nca.go.ke:81/
